The Conflict of the Ages Readathon starts Jan. 1, on Facebook.

We start with Patriarchs and Propheten. We'll dedicate ourselves to read one chapter a day for 10 months until all 5 books are read.
Patriarchs and Prophets
Prophets and Kings
The Desire of Ages
The Acts of the Apostles
The Great Controversy

We are almost 3 thousand members on the site. Anyone who wishes to may log into the site and blog in discussion room a short comment from what they read as often as they desire to post.

It is led by Sandra Entermann, the Australian SDA recording artist.

 http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=185208356614&ref=share

Basically, it's just one chapter per day from January 1, right through 'til the middle of November!

Sandra writes "Let's pray for one another as we embark on this journey together, and I cannot stress enough the importance of getting yourself and 'accountability partner'. Someone that will be prepared to be a part of the Readathon as well, someone who you can encourage, and who can encourage you. You will need this. The enemy will be sure to try to distract us, so to have that someone to be sharing the journey with will be most helpful". “Sandra”.

Agape says... "Great! Now I am joining into a group effort to systematicly, methodically, reading the big five to stablize my SDA identity". Would either of you two care for being my encourage-partner for the reading journey?

Finally i got my password for this site back, and can read the postings made in the last 2 months Smiley

I don't have a facebook account, so can't see what they have, but it sounds like a good journey.  Personally, i'm more interested in the original writings than the compiled ones, but there are good things in all of them.  May God guide you in your journey!

So Danny couldn't enter this site because his password went missing? now's okay, right?

I forgot this topic thread was put up by me here. I'm here again so I'll tell of my past three months on facebook Readathon.

The first group reached 4,000 and Sandra got informed by Facebook that if the growth of membership goes beyound the 5,000 membership mark she has no option allowing her anymore to send notices per mass-mail to all members anymore. So she did the offered alternative and opened a FanPage EGW Readathon. The group now has over 4,800 and the second group of FanPage has over 4,500. I believe hundreds have registered for both groups.

First off in January there were a hundred or so posting on the comment wall all sorts of praise, jubilation, and thankfulness to be entering into reading EGW five big books. Daily was shouts of joy for the Readathon. Lots giving the impression they would start and stick to it. I was skeptical that of the 5,000 even a hundred would stay faithful until November. To keep my part of being consistant and sticking with it, I made notes every day of the chapter being read. Then I read the bible portion. This month at the beginning I noticed that the bible portion was way more dear to my heart than the extra-ciricular comments she woven into her novel way of writing up the matter in her P&P book.
I do appreciated some of her extra comments and inter-woved them in my write ups, and despite my being annoyed with her style of writing, didn't give up on reading P&P chapter for chapter..
Please forgive me, I don't want to offend you devotees of EGW, but I have never liked her archaic style of writing. I most certainly don't like her dramatic emotionalisms that keep cropping up again and again. A moralizer, faultfinder, constant-presenting condemnations is also not my cup of tea.
I personally don't respond to her story telling type of set-up. It is indeed of another mentality from two hundred years ago. Please, don't take me as being faultfinding or against her. I just don't get the vibes of "glory, glory" when Ellen writes something in her manner of saying something. When she speaks truth I recognize it and am at peace.

However, I can never get enough of reading the jewish-style of thinking in the writings of anything of O.T. scriptures. God's inspiration there has a way of relating to how I am set for receiving spiritual matters. It's like a proper factual journalism style of telling something that I totally respect. I respond in humble awe at all I read from the canonized bible portions. God's holy Spirit has so worked on my thinking when reading His scriptures in many incidences, I am awed and overwhelmed constantly. Over the years I am changed because of what I have seen of the character of God working in humans events through bible scriptures. I read, accept, believe and walk in faith to what He says to me after I have done a bible study.

I have been negligent over a few years now in doing a systematic reading of the old testament. Now I am thankful for this drill of discipline that I am doing with a group. Much is already known and familiar but layered down a bit through forgetfulness. I haven't been teaching Juniors in the church for 15 yrs now and my turning to the OT story for illustrating a moral has lagged behind. I read two postings to the comment wall of people phoning up a relative or friend and the two of them would read the chapter together over the phone. I found that so ingenious and wonderful to know.

So many in this Readathon in the course of events have stopped doing a proper DAILY study of their bibles. Since January I have started again a daily bible study, and with EGW book as a commentary giving additional helps where I find some matter a bit hazy.

P&P is now finished and tomorrow I, with the others, start on Patriarchs and Kings.
P&P, P&K, DA, AA, and GC I read 35 years ago as I first joined up with SDAism. This time of refreshing shows me certain things about EGW's mind that is praise worthy and also not so credible in a few instances.
